About the event
Flutist Lars Johannesson presents a workshop on 18th century music performance practice. This will be an overview that aims to teach a fundamental understanding how Baroque Music works; the phrasing nuance that is implied by the notation and languages of the time. We will also be touching on topics such as essential and arbitrary ornamentation, editions, early instruments and the current environment of Historically Informed Performance practice.
Lars Johannesson performs on both modern and period flutes, in a variety of orchestral and chamber music settings. He is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, Holland. Lars is currently a faculty member of the San Francisco Early Music Society's annual Summer Baroque Workshop.
Participants are asked to bring with them their instrument and a printed out workshop packet or a tablet with the packet PDF file downloaded.
