Conductor Week is where young musicians step into leadership. This week brings together everything students explored during the previous weeks — rhythm, melody, breath, and ensemble playing — and places it in the hands of the conductor. Children learn how music is organized, how groups stay together, and how leaders guide an ensemble with clear movement, listening, and focus. Who This Week Is For • Children ages 5–9 • No prior music experience needed • Confident or emerging leaders • Kids who enjoy teamwork and big-picture thinking What Students Will Experience ✔ Introduction to conducting patterns and beat shapes ✔ Learning how to cue entrances and cut-offs ✔ Understanding tempo, dynamics, and expression ✔ Group ensemble games focused on listening and leadership ✔ Creative projects connected to stage presence and performance ✔ Choir and solfège integrated into ensemble awareness ✔ Circle rehearsal preparing for a final performance Students will take turns leading small group ensembles, guiding rhythm patterns, and directing simple musical pieces. They will learn: • How to communicate through movement • How to listen deeply to others • How to take responsibility in a group • How music comes together as a team effort Conductor Week helps children understand that music is not only about playing — it’s about leading, listening, and creating together. It’s confidence-building, collaborative, and empowering.
