A Night of Brazilian Choro Music at Orange Music Studio

This past Sunday, Orange Music Studio came alive with one of the most joyful events we’ve ever hosted—an unforgettable night of Brazilian choro music and international connection.

An Exciting Musical Gathering

Musicians flew in from Brazil, Los Angeles, and Boston to make this event special. We were honored to welcome:

• Daniela Spielmann – woodwinds/saxophone (Brazil)

• Sheila Zagury – piano (Brazil)

• Clarice Cast – pandeiro/percussion (Los Angeles)

• Catherine Bent – cello (Boston)

• Jane Lenoir – flute (Bay Area)

  
  

Daniela and Sheila, lifelong friends and collaborators from Rio, brought over 30 years of shared musical history to the stage. They were joined by the high-energy brilliance of Clarice, the lyrical warmth of Catherine, and the grounded artistry of Jane, a long-time friend of our studio.

The Power of Music

The music flowed seamlessly from classic choro pieces to fresh original compositions. It filled the space with rhythm, emotion, and connection. Each note resonated with the spirit of Brazil, creating a lively atmosphere that engaged everyone present.

But what truly made this night unforgettable was the roda de choro—a big, joyful jam circle that took place at the end of the concert. Musicians and audience members alike jumped in with whatever they could contribute. We saw a bass trumpet played by a seasoned pro, a soulful flamenco guitarist, and a wave of singers, percussionists, cellists, and even a few of our own students bravely stepping into the mix.

A Heartfelt Celebration

Champagne and strawberries were shared with the grown-ups, laughter rang out, and the room pulsed with connection. Old friendships were rekindled, and exciting new ensembles and musical relationships were born. We’re confident that some of these talented musicians will be returning to Orange Music Studio soon.

This is the magic of Gifted Youth USA—bringing people together through music, across borders, generations, and experience levels. It’s amazing how music can unite us all.
